Woven Gender Study

Even in 2014, gender roles effect all of us on a daily basis. When comparing metalwork to weaving, it's very apparent that, in today's society, metalwork is socially accepted as a man's job while weaving is socially accepted as a woman's job. This piece is a woven textile literally produced half with "feminine" yarn and half with "masculine" metal. Both materials are required for the structure of the piece to remain. Without one, the entire piece would fall apart. The M and the W are one in the same. This piece was displayed at Our Show in May 2014.
